“Worthless! Worthless! You’re worthless!”

She screamed in my head.

The blade bit down sharply,

My arms seeping red.

The pain takes me over,

A sweet drug clearing my head,

Smothering my thoughts

With my arms seeping red.

They all make their judgements.

“For attention”, some claim.

But they don’t hear her voice

And they don’t know her name.

They don’t hear the words

Rooted in my brain.

They only see the cuts,

Not understanding true pain.

The words are the lie

That I’ve heard all my life,

That can only be silenced

By the kiss of the knife.

The ugliest of lies

I see by the light of my face.

The distortion of truth

Made clear by this grace.

Grace that made me

That I may be a light,

That I was purposed

And that I can fight.

That I may yank up the lies,

Like weeds from a bed.

And by the same hand,

Plant the truth instead.
